Pontfaen Young Farmers’ Club is celebrating success at county round in Brecknock, with members now proudly representing the county at the Wales YFC Finals across several competitions.

This weekend marks the first of these finals, as Sian Healey travels to Bangor to compete in the Senior Member of the Year competition.

Sian is an exceptional example of what a Young Farmers’ Club Senior Member should be. Her contribution is not defined by a single role or achievement, but by 16 years of consistent, selfless service at club, county, Wales and national level.

What truly sets Sian apart is not only what she does, but how she does it. Despite working in a demanding frontline nursing role, renovating a home with her partner, and being a mum to a one-year-old son, Sian continues to give extraordinary time, energy and commitment to YFC. She now undertakes a two-hour round trip to attend club meetings and events, county meetings and events and Wales committees yet remains one of the most reliable, prepared and positive leaders within the organisation.

Among her many contributions, Sian is the co-ordinator of the Illuminated Charity Tractor Run, which raised over £10,000 in the past year alone for Wales Air Ambulance, The Brain Tumour Charity, and paediatric wards across Glangwili Hospital, Hereford Hospital, Prince Charles Hospital and Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital.

She has also competed extensively at county, Wales and national level across drama, public speaking, cookery, stockjudging, sport and many other competitions. Sian writes, produces and trains members for entertainment and drama, mentors junior public speaking teams, and supports competitions including Situations Vacant, Promotions, Stockjudging and Carcass Judging.

Through her leadership and influence, Pontfaen YFC has achieved major recognition, including European Inspirational Club of the Year and the Best of Brecon Young Volunteer Award.

Through extraordinary dedication, compassion and leadership, Sian continues to create opportunities for others while balancing a demanding career, long travel and motherhood. If every Young Farmers’ Club had a Sian, the opportunities and futures created for rural young people would be remarkable.

Members of Pontfaen YFC will also be supporting Sennybridge YFC in the Welsh Entertainment Competition on Saturday and Erwood YFC in the English Competition on Sunday. The club would also like to wish Evie Lewis of Sennybridge YFC the very best of luck as she competes in the Junior Member of the Year.

Looking ahead, the club is currently practising for the Show Choir, which will take place on Sunday, March 22 at the Wales YFC Speaking Day at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells.

The Show Choir team includes Mollie Hughes, Sioned Davies, Sian Healey, Catherine Woods, Alice Hyde, Elin Woods, Darcey Boulton, Beth Thompson, Lizzy Cavenagh and Amelia Davies, joined by Evie Lewis, Sophie Jones and Anest Jones of Sennybridge YFC. The choir will perform “Ordinary” by Alex Warren alongside a mix of Calon Lân and The Rose, with Alice Hyde introducing the team. The club would like to extend sincere thanks to Liz Boulton for her invaluable help with the choir.

Also competing on the day will be Alice Hyde in the Under 16 Public Speaking, where she will take on the role of speaker, and Sian Healey, who will compete in the Senior Debating competition.
