Pontfaen YFC has enjoyed a busy and successful few weeks, taking part in a wide range of events and competitions.

Following a strong Rally Day, the club finished runners-up for the Rally Day Cup, Winter Competitions and the Vera Jones Overall Shield. They also won the award for most points by under-18 members, as well as the Stockjudging Trophy.

The club also recently hosted a successful Summer Supper, where members prepared and served a two-course meal. Thanks were extended to Castell Howell for donating the ham and potatoes, and to Mair and Roy Wilson for the eggs.

Entertainment on the night came from the club’s talented performers, including the third-placed group singing team, solo singing winner Sian Healey, and the dancing team, who won their event and will now go on to represent Brecknock at the Royal Welsh Show.

Pontfaen members also travelled to Lampeter for the Wales YFC Sports Day, where they secured third place in both netball and boys’ football.

At the recent Best of Brecon Awards, George Southgate won the Young Volunteer Award, and club leader Caroline Frampton received a Judge’s Commendation. The club was shortlisted for Voluntary Group or Team of the Year, alongside Nicky Williams and her Arctic Blast team.

Caroline is also nearing the end of a year-long fundraising challenge for Wales Air Ambulance and Brecon Mountain Rescue. In June she ran 5km every day, and recently completed the 30-mile Pigum Ultra, which involved over 5,000ft of climbing around the Abergavenny peaks. Her final challenge is to climb Pen y Fan 10 times in 24 hours on Saturday, August 2.

The club wishes all competitors the best of luck.
