A local farmer from near Builth Wells has joined NFU Cymru as their new communications adviser.

Sarah Phillips, who is covering maternity leave within the communications team, brings a wealth of experience to the role.

With a Broadcast Journalism degree from the University of Gloucestershire, Sarah has built an impressive career in the media sector. She has worked for the Welsh Government, CTF Auctioneers, and contributed as a freelancer to Horse & Hound magazine, honing her skills in communications while also balancing her life on the farm.

Sarah and her family farm Brecknock Hill Cheviots, a breed they regularly showcase and sell at local sales. Alongside her professional achievements, she is deeply involved in the agricultural community, often participating in local and county shows, whether it’s with her daughters and their ponies, or showing horses and sheep herself.

After taking a career break to raise her two young children, Sarah is excited about her return to the workforce with NFU Cymru.

“I always wanted to bring my passion for farming and writing together and this job does just that,” she said.

“I am thrilled to be taking on this role and I am excited to get going. I look forward to working with the NFU Cymru team and the members at this crucial time in agriculture.”

NFU Cymru Director, John Mercer said: “I am really pleased that we have been able to secure Sarah as part of our communications team.

“With her passion and knowledge of the industry, coupled with her media background, I’m sure she will be a great asset to the team.”
