HOPES that a primary school condemned to closure could be granted an extra year have been dashed.

That has lead to a warning that Beguildy Church in Wales Primary School could become a 'ghost school' that would be open only in name but without any children on its register.

Powys County Council's cabinet was asked to consider allowing the school, which it has already agreed to close, a stay of execution until August 2014.
