CONCERT-GOERS can look forward to a delicious evening of music-making on Saturday, November 11 when Brecon Singers, directed by Robert Evans, perform Brahms Requiem in Brecon Cathedral.
From the quiet opening movement ‘Blessed Are They That Mourn’ through the lyrical ‘How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place’ to the triumphant ‘Here on Earth Have We No Continuing Place’, the music promises to thrill performers and concert goers alike.
The performance will feature soprano Emilia Morton and her brother-in-law baritone Nicholas Morton. As a member of The Sixteeen Emilia has made many recordings and performed concerts around the world with step-out solos in Amsterdam, Holland and Australia. She has also performed with other prestigious choirs including the Monteverdi Choir, the Gabrieli Consort and as a soloist in Handel’s Dixit Dominus at Buckingham Palace.
Nicholas is a keen recitalist and opera singer who has performed in many prestigious venues including Codogan Hall, the Royal Albert Hall Elgar Rooms and The British Embassy in Paris. His opera roles include the lead in Don Giovanni at Rye Festival.
Pianists Alan Davies and Peter Allwood and Timpanist Gareth Hamlin will accompany the choir.
Alan, Brecon Singers’ assistant director and accompanist, is well known locally for his initiation of and work with South Powys Youth Music and his work with the Music in Hospitals charity. He is also a talented chamber and orchestral musician and plays in many local concerts. Peter Allwood is a freelance musician and composer who directed the National Youth Music Theatre from 1978-2000. From 2001-11 he was Headmaster of Lichfield Cathedral School. He currently directs the Sandgate Singers and the Chantry Quire and works occasionally as a guest conductor with other choirs and orchestras.
