A SPECIAL music festival will be staged to remember a late 'pop idol' from Llanigon.

Mally Powell led a double life as a sheep farmer and a glam, cross dressing Brit pop front man.

He's been described as an 'unsigned superstar' by his family and friends who will stage Mally Fest at Baskerville Hall Hotel, Clyro, on Saturday, June 21.

Around 25 bands, singers and DJs who knew Mally and have volunteered to take part will perform on three stages over 12 hours.

Mally, who died last autumn following a battle with cancer, was a member of Britpop group Zip-Zip Undo Me who had shared bills with bands including Pulp.

The proceeds will go to Pen-yr-Heol Chapel's stable refurbishment fund, a project which Mally had helped with and is close to the heart of the Powell family.
