May 26-June 5 Hay Festival

For 27 years Hay Festival has brought together writers from around the world to debate and share stories at its festival in the staggering beauty of the Welsh Borders. Hay celebrates great writing from poets and scientists, lyricists and comedians, novelists and environmentalists, and the power of great ideas to transform our way of thinking. We believe the exchange of views and meeting of minds that our festivals create inspire revelations personal, political and educational. Hay is, in Bill Clinton’s phrase, ’The Woodstock of the mind’.

May 26-June 6 How The Light Gets In Festival

HowTheLightGetsIn is the world’s largest annual philosophy and music festival offering over a hundred and fifty events, plus live performances held in Hay-on-Wye.

This year’s theme is ’The Known, the Strange and the New’. We’ll be looking for the strange in search of the new. For every time we think we have gotten to the bottom of something, be it in science or morality, philosophy or politics, the unexpected and inexplicable has a habit of cropping up. Something strange defies our expectations. Something that doesn’t make sense, something that doesn’t fit. This year, we’re tackling strangeness head on, going boldly in search of the new.
