May 21&22 The Royal Welsh Spring Festival
The number one event for smallholding, gardening and sustainable living, the Royal Welsh Spring Festival, will this year be held on 21st and 22nd May and is already proving to be a very popular weekend-long event in the spring show season. A celebration of rural life, the two-day festival, with its action-packed programme of entertainment and educational activities, free workshops, displays and main ring performances offers the perfect family day out.
May 21-June 5 Fforest Fawr Geopark Festival
Enjoy nearly three weeks of walks, talks and other events organised by the National Park Authority and its Geopark partners.
May 22 Glanusk Estate Garden Fayre & NGS Open Gardens
This is the third year we have run this event and we are delighted that over 25 artists and craftsmen from the Estate and nearby areas are joining us this year.
Visitors will be welcome to wander through the gardens and speak to the Estate gardener, and the Fayre will feature exhibits of works for sale including handmade metal garden ornaments, wonderful feather artworks, bespoke indoor and outdoor furniture, architectural salvage, slate ware and wood turned items, refurbished garden tools, potted plants, herbal soaps and lotions, felt work, fine art photographic works, a local charcoal producer, a selection of gardening books, free range eggs, artisan tools for woodburners and open fires, handmade dog biscuits, beautiful botanical illustrations, poetry and prints, artworks and homewares and bespoke Beanies.

For 27 years Hay Festival has brought together writers from around the world to debate and share stories at its festival in the staggering beauty of the Welsh Borders. Hay celebrates great writing from poets and scientists, lyricists and comedians, novelists and environmentalists, and the power of great ideas to transform our way of thinking. We believe the exchange of views and meeting of minds that our festivals create inspire revelations personal, political and educational. Hay is, in Bill Clinton’s phrase, ’The Woodstock of the mind’.
May 26-June 6 How The Light Gets In Festival
HowTheLightGetsIn is the world’s largest annual philosophy and music festival offering over a hundred and fifty events, plus live performances held in Hay-on-Wye.
This year’s theme is ’The Known, the Strange and the New’. We’ll be looking for the strange in search of the new. For every time we think we have gotten to the bottom of something, be it in science or morality, philosophy or politics, the unexpected and inexplicable has a habit of cropping up.
