The two mums leading the regeneration of a Radnorshire village play park say that their dreams of creating a fantastic children’s park are on the verge of coming true, following a substantial financial boost.

Hollie and Jenna Smith are at the heart of fundraising efforts to revamp Llanyre play park as a village space, and the community project has now received a five-figure grant from the National Lottery Community Fund.

The overall total raised by the community now stands at over £120,000.

Hollie said: “I couldn’t believe it when the lottery said they were giving £67,461 to the appeal.

“Initially we thought we’d be doing well to get to a total fund of £30,000, nut everyone has been so generous giving money, time, materials and plant and equipment that we have raised over £120,000 since we started in August 2020 and volunteers have done a lot of physical work.”

Jenna, who has applied for around 40 grants in total, said: “We’ve worked tirelessly over the past couple of years but we couldn’t have done this without all of the kindness that has been shown towards our park and wish to thank everyone that has helped us, including Llanyre Community Council who supported our vision.

“A special thanks to the National Lottery and its players for this grant. We won’t forget every contribution that has been made.

“When we started out, we spoke to other groups that had fundraised for their parks and learned from them. We’ve now learned so much ourselves and would be more than happy to share our experience if any other group wants to do what we have done.”

The first phase of the works were completed in late 2021 and the remaining substantial works are planned for July, during which the park will be closed for three weeks. It is hoped that the park will be completed by August.
