Christ College Brecon’s Giving Day has raised an incredible £30,000 to go towards four school campaigns, as well as contributions made to Brecon Foodbank.
A grand total of £30,021 was raised across Thursday, 29 January and Friday, 30 January.
£11,074 of the money raised will go towards the Christ College Foundation. The foundation was established in 2000 to significantly expand the number of transformative scholarships and bursaries offered to talented pupils. The money will also allow the school to develop its facilities and financially support around 150 students each year.
Another one of the campaigns was the Giving Back Fund which received £5,991 from this year’s Giving Day. The Giving Back Fund gives current and former pupils the chance to give the same life-changing opportunities to someone facing the challenges they may remember.
When Christ College was founded in 1541, £24 of the original endowment was set aside for scholars. While the original fund has long since gone, the spirit behind it is stronger than ever. Thanks to the Foundation's funds, the school are able to offer a Christ College education to pupils with promise, talent and ambition who would not otherwise be able to join the school.
The Chapel and Heritage Fund received £4,134 in donations from Giving Day. The fund actively works to help safeguard the precious legacy that connects past, present, and future members of the school community.
Support from donors is helping the community plan even more ambitious projects in the future and undertake approved projects, such as: re-lettering and re-gilding WW1 Memorial tablet, commissioning specialist repair of the 1864 Chapel door, rebinding team photograph albums, and providing heritage signage for their most historic buildings.
And finally the Pupil Opportunity Fund raised £8,822 towards the installation of air conditioning in the Neuadd. This fund aims to raise money for a specific school project to enhance the pupil experience at school. The Pupil Opportunity Fund project for Giving Day 2026 was a project requested by David Grant.
