Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team have reflected on a busy first month of 2026 with over 20 requests for help in January.

“January gave us 22 requests for help to which our Incident Controllers deployed team members to 14 of those,” said a spokesperson for the team.

Throughout the month they deployed to both the Central Area and Waterfalls Country of Bannau Brycheiniog and the mountain tops overlooking both the Rhondda Valleys.

Persons unsure of their position in low cloud and mist, injured persons from slips, trips and falls have been the incidents they have dealt with.

A spokesperson for the team summed up the month. They said: “It’s easily remembered that January ‘26 started with lots of snow and ice, followed by seemingly non stop cloud and rain. We’ve been out in all the weather maintaining our training levels, we’ve welcomed our 2026 new team members with their introductions to team life and the background work has continued to ensure our vehicles and equipment remain operational ready.

“A very busy start to the year for us and we look forward to seeing what February will bring. Our continued thanks and huge appreciation for all the support we get from our families, friends and supporters.”
