TWO friends have become an internet sensation after a recording of them performing 36 hits in five minutes using only four chords was viewed more than three million times in less than a week.

Paul Dark from Rhayader is part of the comedy musical act Parsons and Dark with his pal Aubrey Parsons from St Athan, in the Vale of Glamorgan, who was filmed performing at the Dovey Inn in Gwynedd two weeks ago.

Inspired by Australian band Axis of Awesome, the pair cover a variety of musicians from Elton John to Bon Jovi in just five minutes.

The pair have been offered gigs all over the world since the filmed performance on Sunday, July 29.

The original video is available on the Parsons and Dark Facebook page as well as the Dovey Inn’s Facebook page and has had 3,825,430 views at the time of writing with well over 2,000 comments and over 6,000 likes.

Aubrey said: "It is a bit of a joke really, showing the audience just how many pop songs hang on the same four chord structure- G, C, Am & F.

"From Let It Be to Take On Me, Paul and myself take you on a whistle stop tour of these catchy tunes that all have the same musical base. It’s based on idea by Australian Band ‘Axis of Awesome’.

“It always goes down a storm- and we even incorporate some Welsh bands into our version which is always very well received by our home audiences.

“The video spiralled on Facebook and since then we have had hundreds and hundreds of replies and bookings, including a week of gigs in Spain and special events in Italy, Poland and even New Zealand.

“That’s alongside many venues in the UK and locally."
