A road closure is expected to be in place until next week, due to a sinkhole that appeared.

The B4518 between Rhayader and Llanidloes closed on Wednesday evening, with repair works being planned. But with snow expected to cause major disruptions, planned works could be delayed.

A spokesperson for Powys County Council said: “Our highways team has closed the B4518 between Rhayader and Llanidloes due to a sinkhole that appeared on Wednesday night. Investigation works carried out today have revealed that the road has been undermined across its full width.

“Repair works are planned to begin tomorrow but these may be hampered by weather conditions, the closure is expected to remain in place until next week. A full diversion will remain in place while the road remains closed.”
