A football tournament in memory of a beloved mum who passed away last year is set to take place this summer.

The event, which will be held on the MOD field at The Watton on August 22, will run from 11am-3pm.

The tournament is in memory of Emma Louise Williams, who died last year.

Emma was a familiar face in and around Brecon and had connections to sport and the Wales Homeless Football Team.

As well as the football matches, a host of actives are planned for the afternoon, including a raffle, face painting and a bouncy castle.

There will also be an ice-cream van and a burger van on site.

Ann Williams, Emma’s mum, said: “Emma played for the Wales Homeless Team so football seemed like the natural choice for an event.”

Emma enjoyed great success with the team, which included a 7,500 mile trip to Chile for the Homeless World Cup in 2014.

Emma’s daughter Keira, who is 13 years old, wanted to do something in memory of her Mum.

Ann said: “Keira plays with the Corries so she’s followed in her mum’s footsteps in loving football.

“She’s obviously found losing her mum incredibly difficult so this is something positive we can do in her memory.

“Lots of local football teams are set to take part. They will all be there on the day - adult’s and kid’s teams- to play and support each other.”

A host of teams are set to play at the event, with footballers of all ages lacing up their boots in memory of Emma.

Ann added: “When the football tournament starts, Keira wants to stand in the middle of the pitch with her family and kick it off. I just thought that would be an amazing thing to do and a lovely moment.”

Ann has been in contact with the Homeless World Cup and hopes that the Welsh National Team are able to attend.

Ann is also busy making all the other preparations for the day and hopes that as many people as possible come along and get involved.

The event has already attracted a wealth of support from local people, who have stepped up to help by offering their services or donating raffle prizes.

Ann said: “The Duchess have given us a voucher for afternoon tea and we’ve been given lots and raffle prizes from people and businesses in and around the town.”

“One of my friends has said that she will donate one of her lodges for the weekend - which is just totally amazing. It’s got a hot tub and can cater for eight people - the kindness is just incredible.”

“I’ve had so much support from the local people. I’ve been a bit overwhelmed with all the support that people have shown already - it’s set to be a wonderful day in Emma’s memory.”
