Dogs at polling stations has been the social media sensation of polling day – but in Powys there’s a dog at the count centre.

Jackie Charlton, who is checking the counting process with the Liberal Democrat team, has brought her hearing dog Lucy to the count.

"She is a hearing dog and she comes everywhere with me. She comes to work, council meetings, the theatre," said Jackie who is also a Lib Dem county councillor.

"Lucy hears sounds for me like the front door bell and I also use a timer to remind me of things which he listens out for and if I take my hearing implant out I can’t hear at all."

The Llangattock councillor, who was elected to Powys council last month, said Lucy has made a big difference since she had her two years ago.

"She’s made a huge difference, for one thing everybody loves her and comes up to talk to me which breaks down barriers, especially for a hearing disability as people talk to you.

"And people can see she is a hearing dog and have a bit more patience with you."

Jackie said she is hoping for a Lib Dem government once all the results are in.
