FREE bus travel is being offered at weekends as part of a Welsh Government-backed pilot scheme on services operated by TrawsCymru.
Beginning on Saturday, July 8, passengers will be able to ride for free on bus services across Wales, including the T4 service between Newtown and Cardiff and the T6 service between Brecon and Swansea. The scheme, which is looking to encourage more people to travel by bus, will also provide a boost to destinations and tourist attractions such as the Brecon Beacons.
It was launched at Brecon bus station on Monday. Backing the scheme, economy and infrastructure secretary Ken Skates said: “The TrawsCymru network covers large areas of Wales, some of which would otherwise be inaccessible by public transport and with the summer tourist season upon us I’m excited about the impact increased passengers could have on tourism in these areas. The free service is subject to availability, but we have also provided additional funding to local authorities to ensure operators are able to deploy more buses to meet demand if necessary.”
