Police have reassured Powys residents that there is “no cause for concern” around fuel stock levels in Powys.
Dyfed-Powys Police, which also thanked residents for buying fuel “responsibly”, took to social media to reassure Powys residents following UK-wide panic-buying and queuing for petrol stations over the weekend.
The force said that while there has been “temporary disruptions” at some petrol stations, it is only in “isolated areas”.
A Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman said: “Along with our partners in the Dyfed-Powys region, we’d like to thank the vast majority of motorists in the area who are purchasing fuel responsibly and calmly.
“Please be assured, we are in touch with fuel stations, who have confirmed there is no disruption to deliveries at most sites, and there is more than adequate fuel stocks across the area – although we have seen a very small number of temporary interruptions in isolated areas. But certainly no cause for concern.
“Please continue to show restraint and normal purchasing of fuel, and do not form queues which can cause unnecessary obstructions on roads for road users and pedestrians.”
However there have been split feelings across Brecon and Radnorshire as residents have taken to Facebook to find petrol stations which still have diesel stocks while others have reported their local stations being out of fuel.
The Brecon & Radnor Express posted to social media to find out how readers had been affected by potential fuel shortages or panic buying.
While a lot of users were quick to say they had not seen any issues or they walked rather than using a car, others reported issues with topping up their tanks.
One Facebook user commented that she had visited multiple garages in the Brecon area on Sunday and that there has been no diesel available.
The woman, who found a garage near Crickhowell, said: “Today [Monday] I managed to find a garage which has some but are liming it to £10 per customer.
“If I can’t get fuel now by the end of the week, I can’t go to work! Absolutely diabolical.”
Another Facebook user commented “plenty of petrol around but no diesel. Does anyone know where has any in the area please?
Another user in Brecon said that while she “has legs and uses them lots”, she was hoping to get diesel on Tuesday for her car to get to work.
The UK Government announced late on Monday that soldiers were being put on standby to deliver fuel amid the concerns that a shortage of tanker drivers were threatening the ability of oil companies to maintain supplies.
Ministers have urged the public repeatedly not to panic buy as there are “ample” supplies of fuel however it does not appear to have stopped some motorists queuing up for petrol - queues and demand are predicted to return to normal later this week.
