A CLAY pigeon shoot is being held in support of an appeal to purchase a specialist £16,000 wheelchair for a seven-year-old girl.

Lily Bignell, who lives at Tretower, near Crickhowell has cerebral palsy spastic diplegia, meaning she has difficulty in walking any distances.

Her standard wheelchair is unsuitable for uneven surfaces and her family are aiming to raise funds to purchase an off-road wheelchair, which will allow the Llangynidr County Primary School pupil to enjoy the countryside.

Her dad Steve has organised the clay shot at Glanusk Estate, Crickhowell on Sunday, June 9 in aid of the appeal.

He said: "We live in a rural area, up a mountain, and the wheelchair Lily has been provided with is only suitable for tarmac and we're trying to raise funds for a wheelchair which will enable her to go off road."

The event takes place from 10am to 3pm.

An auction is also being held on Friday, June 14 at the Manor Hotel Crickhowell. Lots include a Wales football shirt signed by star player Gareth Bale, boxing gloves signed by Nathan Cleverly, tickets to the Greenman Festival at Glanusk and various country, fishing and shooting prizes.
