A POLICE officer and shop owner from Brecon rode to the rescue when two friends had their bikes stolen hours before a charity race in the Brecon Beacons.

Pals Nick Polmear and Simon Martin were part of a group of 16 dads taking part in a cycling, swimming and mountain climbing challenge when they discovered their bikes had been stolen, just hours before they were due at the start line.

But Brecon based Police Community Support Officer Steffan Rees contacted Jason Thorn, the owner of Biped Cycles in Ship Street who agreed to provide replacement bikes for the pair from Yoxall, Staffordshire.

Grateful Nick praised the generosity of PCSO Rees and shop owner Jason: "We're very grateful for all the help we received from the police and the local community."
