Mr Harrington, a local expert, recently visited Ysgol y Mynydd Du in Talgarth to talk to the pupils about grain and food production. During his session, he asked if the pupils would like a cow to visit the school — and just like that, the idea came to life!

Mr Harrington arranged a visit from local farmer Andrew Giles of Maesllwch Farm, Glasbury, to bring one of his milking cows, named Ginger, to the school on Wednesday, 9 July. The children had the opportunity to learn about where their milk comes from and how to care for a milking cow with examples of food.

The children were fascinated to learn how cows are milked and asked so many thoughtful and insightful questions, and thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

On Thursday, the children used some of the milk to make butter - a perfect way to see the journey from farm to food. This experience supported the Curriculum for Wales by encouraging curiosity, real-life learning, and helping the pupils become ethical, informed citizens.

Headteacher Mrs Morgan said: “We hope to visit the farm next term to extend this learning even further, deepening our understanding of food, farming, and sustainability.

“We’ve had a fantastic few days of hands-on learning here at Ysgol y Mynydd Du!”
