FUNDING is available from the Powys War Memorials Project to clean up memorials in mid Wales.
Among those likely to benefit this year is the war memorial in Builth Wells. The restoration looks likely to take place this May after the idea was discussed at the project’s recent board meeting in Plas Dolerw, Newtown.
The work is to be carried out by Kieran Elliot who restored the clock tower war memorial in Rhayader in October last year.
The funding is available for a limited time, with up to £5,000 being offered for each memorial and up to £200 to help clean up the surrounds.
Any communities wishing to restore their war memorial should contact the project officer, Catherine Pugh, on 01597 827657 or [email protected].
The project can also fund free training for communities in Powys, giving tips on how to research the names listed on war memorials with a view to adding any that have been omitted in the past.
Ideas and training can also be given on the development of World War I walks and trails and other World War I - themed events and activities, such as film screenings or musical performances.
