SOME festivals are just about music. Green Man is just about everything.
Adopting the now long established shanty town / mini city model, Green Man is part live music festival, part Kensington Market shopping spree, part food festival, part funfair and part summer school.
If Willy Wonka made music festivals, he'd make Green Man.
Noah and the Whale mistook Green Man Festival for Queen Man Festival taking to the stage over an overblown brass band version of Bohemian Rhapsody. The Saturday evening crowd sang along sans Freddie and the band from Twickenham went into an uncanny Lloyd Cole and the Commotions impression.
The atmosphere at Green Man is one of positive thinking and imagination. Dressing up as anything you could possibly conceive is not obligatory but provides a movable show for all. The highlight of the festival were the Grannies - I have an idea that they were beardy blokes but maybe not.
Laura Marlin charmed the audience, late addition Johnny Cooper Clarke was packed out and punkgrass outfit The Avett Brothers from South Carolina won the day.
