The proud bond between the Gurkhas and the town of Brecon will be celebrated once again at the annual Brecon Freedom Parade, taking place on Sunday, 8 June, at 2:30 PM on The Bulwark.

This vibrant and meaningful public event is open to all to attend.

The Gurkhas first began serving in Brecon in 1974, and on 12 December 1980, a dedicated unit was formally established as the Gurkha Demonstration Company (GDC). Since then, the Gurkhas have become an integral part of the community—valued not only for their military contribution, but for their enduring friendship and involvement in local life.

In November 1985, Brecon Town Council recognised this deep connection by granting Honorary Citizenship to the Company. The following May, the inaugural Brecon Freedom Parade was held, launching what would become a cherished annual tradition.

Renamed Gurkha Company (Mandalay) in 2004, and now known as Gurkha Wing (Mandalay), the unit continues to uphold its proud heritage and strong ties to Brecon.

This year’s parade promises to be a colourful cultural spectacle, showcasing Gurkha tradition and celebrating over five decades of loyal service and friendship. Members of the public are warmly invited to attend and show their support.
