TWELVE years ago in the spring of 2000, Catherine Slade from Brecon was thrilled to learn she was pregnant.

The first child for Catherine, then 22, and her husband Paul was due to be born on December 20 but six months into the pregnancy, the young mum-to-be was diagnosed with a placenta abruption, a serious condition which can put both mother and baby at high risk.
