People affected by cancer in Powys can now access new webpages for the Improving the Cancer Journey Programme, bringing together clear information on local support.
The site is designed for adults living with or affected by cancer across Powys - whether newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, recovering, adjusting to life beyond cancer, living with a palliative diagnosis, bereaved, or supporting a family member or friend.
The webpages also include a link to the Cancer Community Connector for Powys, enabling people to self-refer or refer someone else for support.
Through this service, people can access a supportive “what matters” conversation and receive personalised signposting to local services to help with a range of everyday concerns. These include support with health and wellbeing, returning to work, counselling and emotional support, transport, money worries, and planning ahead, such as making a will or arranging care for pets.
The site also highlights ways for people to share their cancer experiences to help improve services, get involved in the Journeying Together Group which brings those with lived experience together to help shape the programme, and learn more about getting ready for cancer treatment, supporting people to improve their physical and emotional wellbeing before treatment begins.
Speaking about the new webpages, Macmillan Lead Nurse for Cancer and Palliative Care in Powys, Louise Hymers, said: “Improving the Cancer Journey in Powys is about listening to what matters most to people affected by cancer and making sure they are connected to the right support, at the right time.
“This new webpages make it easier for people and their families to find help locally and to know they don’t have to navigate their cancer journey alone,” she added.
