A programme that helps Powys’ unpaid carers balance their own care needs with the needs of those they look after, is to return.

Powys Health and Care Academy is offering a free mindfulness based living course over eight weeks, starting on Friday, November 24.

The Powys Balance Programme, which is being delivered for the academy by Phoenix Mindful Living, will run from 9.30am to 11.30am on Fridays, via Microsoft Teams.

It is only open to unpaid carers, whether that responsibility is full or part time, and places will be limited.

Nikki Thomas-Roberts, of Phoenix Mindful Living, who will be leading the sessions, said: “This course will support you with tools, techniques, and experience of using mindfulness to build resilience, emotional regulation, and confidence.

“It is suitable for anyone who is facing change which may be creating feelings of anxiety or distress; would like to build self-confidence; learn about self-compassion and kindness; or would like to become more self-aware. We can help you meet life with an attitude of empowerment.”

An unpaid carer is anyone who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of an illness, disability or an addiction and is not being paid a wage for providing support.
