BRECON Singers will be performing JS Bach’s brilliant Magnificat in D, conducted by Robert Evans in Brecon Cathedral, on Saturday, November 10 from 7pm.

The performance will bring together choral singers, professional musicians and fine professional soloists.

Julie Cooper soprano is an experienced soloist and consort singer who has performed with ‘The King’s Consort’ and ‘The Sixteen’ and appeared on BBC4 in a series about Sacred Music.

William Purefoy alto is a trained opera singer who has recorded with The Sixteen and sung in opera at Aldburgh and in theatre at Shakespeare’s Globe.

Tom Robson tenor has a busy career as an international oratorio soloist and recitalist and has performed extensively with many of the top ensembles. Ben Davies bass has performed internationally in opera and as a soloist and consort singer with many choirs including The Sixteen and the Kings Consort.

JS Bach’s Magnificat in D has been described as the brightest and most festive of all his works with the orchestral introduction creating a brilliant regal mood. Less well known than some of his other choral works it offers beautiful solos and complex choruses which showcase his skill as a composer.

The concert will include Bach’s cantata ‘Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn’ which describes the healing of a blind man and beautifully blends soprano, alto, tenor and bass solos with choruses. In addition the orchestra will perform Bach’s Orchestral Suite No 3. Tickets are available from Ardent Gallery High St Brecon, Cathedral Shop and on the door.
