Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has met with the Chairman and the Chief Executive of Powys Local Health Board, to discuss the problem of cardiac services in Brecon. During the meeting, she stressed the need for the Board to continue their search for a cardiologist for Breconshire War Memorial Hospital, and also the necessity of utilising, where appropriate, the skills of local doctors to provide those services suitable to a community hospital setting. There is a possibility, for example, of running a chest pain clinic using some suitably qualified existing doctors from the hospital. The need for more robust contracts with other health bodies was also discussed, to ensure that personnel changes do not result in health services being lost. Ms Williams said: 'Overall, this was a productive meeting, and I am pleased that the LHB have agreed to continue to look for a cardiologist, and a technician, for Breconshire War Memorial Hospital. "It was something we were promised two years ago, and it is very frustrating that it has not yet materialised. "Stronger contracts with bodies providing other health services to the hospital are also essential if we do not want to see more services lost, and I hope that this is something that the Board will continue to work towards."
