RIO Paralympic gold medalist Rob Davies has received a hero’s welcome at Brecon’s Guildhall.
Brecon Town Council is hosting a civic reception for Rob, who struck gold in the wheelchair table tennis competition, until 12.30 this afternoon.
At the reception Rob told Brecon Mayor Rose Evans "you’ve got bigger bling than me" as he compared his Paralympic medal with the town’s mayoral chain.
A stream of well-wishers have already called in to the coffee morning style reception to congratulate Rob, who was left in a wheelchair after in injury playing rugby for Brecon RFC in 2005
Among those who congratulated Rob at the reception was Ray Rigsby who had taught him bricklaying when Rob was his apprentice.
Rob, who is originally from Talgarth and now lives in Brecon, said he arrived back in the UK with the rest of the Great Britain team on Tuesday.
"It’s been really really busy and I’ve done lots of media stuff. It’s been really exciting, I’ve never done anything like this before. I’ve been in radio and television studios in Cardiff, it’s been brilliant and there’s lots of photographs."
Rob said he was overwhelmed at the reception in Brecon: "I can’t believe how many people have come, and I’ve got to meet the mayor as well.
"There’s been lots of friends and family and people I don’t get to see very often."
