THERE was a high number of entrants for the 2018 Rotary Young Musician of the Year competition at Builth Wells High School.

The event held at the schoool was sponsored by members of the Builth Wells Rotary Club.

The adjudicator for the evening was Paul Sweeting the musical director of the Talgarth Male Voice Choir who is himself a versatile all-round musician and one who gains most satisfaction in seeing learners progress and develop in their musical studies while helping them to do so.

Annie Cromie took first place in the junior vocal, followed by Mabli Jones in second and Maisy Wilcocks and Sylvie Garner in joint third.

First place in the senior vocal section went to Morgan-Ellen Field with Lucy Thomas in second.

In the junior instrumental section Eifion Davies took first place, with Libby Walker in second and third place being jointly held by Maisy Wilcocks and Elin Bolland. First place in the senior instrumental section was taken by Amy Cromie and second went to Alex Freeman with Bethan Jones in third place.

Morgan Ellen Field and Amy Cromie, as the top two entrants in the senior and junior vocal sections, will now go forward to the area round of the Rotary Young Musician competition, which will be hosted by Builth Wells Rotary Club at the Wyeside on Saturday, February 10.
