A BRECON nail bar faces a fine of up to £40,000 after an immigration operation at the weekend.

A 21-year-old Vietnamese man who was working at the nail bar was arrested after he was found to be working illegally and a second Vietnamese man, aged 26, was removed from the premises after it was found he had no right to work in the UK.

The raid was part of a Wales-wide operation by immigration officials and the Vietnamese man who was arrested is now in a detention centre pending his removal from the country. The other man must now report to Home Office officials while his case progresses.

Businesses face penalties of up to £20,000 for each illegal worker unless they can demonstrate that proper right-to-work checks were carried out.

Richard Johnston, from the Wales Home Office Immigration Enforcement team, said: “These arrests are a clear warning to those in Wales abusing our immigration laws. There will be no slowdown in our efforts to arrest, detain and remove you from the UK.

“Employers who use illegal labour are defrauding the taxpayer, undercutting genuine employers and denying legitimate job hunters work.

“We are happy to work with employers who want to play by the rules but those which continue to flout them will face heavy financial penalties.

“I would urge anyone with detailed and specific information about suspected immigration abuse to get in touch.”
