The sun shone on Lower Chapel Show on Saturday, August 9, as families and visitors gathered at the Alltybrain Fields near Pwllgloyw, hosted by the Coedmawr family.

Festivities began with the crowning of this year’s Show Queen, Miss Sophie Lewis of Pantycored, who celebrated her 18th birthday alongside Show Presidents Mr and Mrs Garfield and Ann Morris.

Horse competitions kicked off at 10am, with both ridden and in-hand classes drawing strong entries. Supreme Champion was awarded to Llecfan Debutante, shown by Lee Harrison, with Reserve Champion Dalsown Ruben, shown by Julie Phillips. The Champion of Welsh Section A & B was Dargale Apollo, shown by Dani Harley. The new field layout gave spectators excellent views, and Lower Chapel had the honour of hosting the Welsh Exmoor Pony Society Show for the first time, showcasing the breed’s elegance in the ring.

Sheep entries were a record high, with Supreme Champion going to Kevin Davies of Llanfechan for his Suffolk tup and Reserve Champion to Sam Duggan for his Beltex ewe. The Young Handlers competition also drew record entries, impressing judges Mr and Mrs Ryan and Katie Joseph, with the overall winner being Sam Duggan.

Visitors also enjoyed a bouncy castle, ice-cream and burger vans, sweet stalls, and a display of local vintage tractors. Children’s sports and the annual speed shear rounded off the day.

The success of Lower Chapel Show 2025 was thanks to the dedication of the Show Committee, judges, stewards, sponsors, catering staff, and volunteers, whose efforts ensured another memorable day for the community.
