With temperatures set to remain in the 30C region this week one attraction in Wales providing much needed relief for tourists from this blistering heat is the National Showcaves Centre for Wales at Dan yr Ogof.
Ashford Price, from the showcaves, said: “This incredible heat wave is causing problems for some of our visitors and their pets. In this region of the Brecon Beacons National Park the daytime temperature is around 30C, but inside the caves it is only 10C. i.e. as you enter the caves in just a few steps you drop from an outside temperate of 30C to 10C!
"Visitors just cannot believe that Nature is providing such an amazing natural phenomena!
"Hence, we are certainly noticing we are getting more visitors trying to escape the sun, and also more dogs visiting the caves as their owners try to bring them a few hours cool doggy release.”
Dan yr Ogof is is a 17-kilometre long cave system, which is claimed to be the largest in the UK.
In a 2005 poll of Radio Times readers, Dan yr Ogof was named as the greatest natural wonder in Britain.
