The candidate for the Official Monster Raving Loony Party has said she “feels euphoric” to be attending the count for the Brecon by-election tonight.
Bernice Benton, as Lady Lily the Pink, arrived to the counting centre to cheers from her horde of supporters as well as the party leader, Howling Laud Hope.
The group, donned with plenty of colour and top hats, interrupted Sky News live interview with recent Liberal Democrat leadership hopeful Ed Davey.
The Llanwrtyd Wells guesthouse owner, who was carrying fruit with a sign offering Pink Lady apples, said: “I feel euphoric being here tonight.
“It’s been absolutely amazing campaigning. I’ve met loads of people, I’ve learnt loads and said loads.
“I’ve had the most amazing support and it feels great to backed by the party leader, who is the longest standing leader in UK history as he’s stood for 20 years and co-founded the party with David Sutch.
“If I become MP tonight, I will issue everyone with free duck houses and trouser presses. I’ve also promised Viscount Gaffer a moat.”
The first candidate to arrive was the Brexit Party candidate Des Parkinson and the third was Labour candidate Tom Davies.
Lord Howling Laud Hope said: “Lily the Pink will cause a stink. I’ve been here all week and I have to say my candidate has excelled herself.
“She’s done 900 leaflet drops this week on her, she’s done really well.”
Lord Hope said he hopes this will be the first by-election where the party has their £500 deposit refunded.
