Last night I went to Theatr Brycheiniog to see the Brecon Little Theatre production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

I remember when I first saw this show, maybe 50 years ago, and it still resonates now. I admit it’s not everyone’s cup of tea as it’s a loud, brash performance of rock opera, but this production was absolutely amazing.

There were so many children on stage and you could tell they were really enjoying themselves, entering into the singing and acting like professionals.

The cast of nearly 60, ranging from 8 to over 60, were all dressed in everyday dress and although I would have preferred traditional dress, it didn’t impact at all on the overall performance.

I couldn’t believe how wonderful the singing was, and the actor, Dan Price who played Jesus reached the most incredible high notes, as did some of the other singers. All the singing was amazing.

At times the story was very emotional, and several people, including myself, were near to tears.

The musical director, Chris Rankin, should be so proud of the whole production.

As a fairly new resident of Brecon I can’t believe how incredibly lucky we are to have such a beautiful theatre in our little town.

Thank you to everyone who performed as it was incredible.
