A viral video on social media shows a single wind turbine blade being transported through a Pembrokeshire village bringing all traffic to a standstill.
The person who took the 5 min video captures the blade pass slowly past where they were standing. This is just 1 blade and in total up to 10 similar long loads would be needed per wind turbine. Comments in the video suggest this is for a 150m tall wind turbine which although very tall, is still 50-100m smaller than the tallest currently being proposed for Wales.
A total of about 1,000 wind turbines are currently being proposed for Wales. If all these wind farms proceed then our Welsh roads will have up to 10,000 long loads causing roads to be closed and traffic to be stopped. On windy days, Wales already produces more energy from Wind than it needs and this week we learn that two offshore wind farms off the west and north Wales coastline have secured UK Government funding. Wales simply does not have a need for any more land based wind turbines.
30 wind turbines over 200m tall are planned for the tallest hill in Radnorshire in Radnor Forest. Nant Mithil as its known by the developer has already received over 350 objections and the consultation has just reopened after a Christmas break.
We have until February 16th to send in our objections.
