A LIBRARY saved from the axe five years ago could be rehoused in the disused basement of a town hall.

Plans by Powys County Council to close Talgarth Library in 2006 provoked public outrage and a protest outside the New Street branch. The authority is now proposing to move the library in a bid to revitalise the centre of the tiny town.

The plan, which has been agreed in principle by the council's ruling board, would see the library relocated to the basement of Talgarth Town Hall which stands in the centre of the main square.
