Shakespeare Link’s Willow Globe is proud to be finally opening its live season on Saturday 8 August with The Comedy of Errors performed by ‘ The Wet Mariners’. The Wet Mariners, loved by local audiences for their wit and verve, are a company of professional actors who regularly perform at the Royal Shakespeare Company and Royal National Theatre. Yet every summer they return to the Willow Globe because of their love and respect for this charity : ‘The most powerful aspect of the Shakespeare Link and the Willow Globe is the community’.
Shakespeare Link have taken considerable care to ensure this performance will comply with the Welsh Assembly Guidelines. ‘We are so excited to have audiences back sitting in the outdoor theatre’ says Kama Roberts, The Willow Globe Manager. ‘Numbers will of course be limited to help us make sure we can run the event as safely as possible. We have already had so many requests for tickets The Wet Mariners have agreed to perform the show three times over the weekend’.
It will be a vibrant and extraordinary production with only 4 actors performing in a play of 16 characters with less than a week to rehearse. But they are used to challenges, at the beginning of Lockdown they performed for the Willow Globe ‘A Midsummer Night’s Stream’ via Zoom to a live audience of over 300 which has since enjoyed over 1300 views . Their performance was described as ‘amazing, talented and so uplifting’ and ‘one of the best things I have seen online since lockdown started’. A brilliant way to welcome the much loved audiences back to the Willow Globe; celebrating live outdoor theatre safely together.
Although many tickets have already been allocated we are holding some back for local members of the community who might not have access to the internet. If you have only just heard about the show and would like to ticket please phone 01597 811487 by Friday, July 31.
