POWYS council has confirmed it is to extend the deadline for members of the public to have their say on the proposed closure of two Radnorshire village schools.

The consultations on the future of Llanbister Primary and Llanfihangel Rhydithon Primary in Dolau were due to close on Thursday, March 24 but will now run until Thursday, May 5.

The council said the period has been extended to make sure all interested parties have an opportunity to take part in the exercise.

Last week the council announced an extension to the consolation period to respond to its proposal to close Nantmel Church in Wales Primary School.

Public meetings have already been held allowing parents and the wider community the opportunity to let the council know their views on the proposals.

Residents have also been invited to respond to the consultation through the council’s website www.powys.gov.uk/haveyoursay or in writing to the council’s School Modernisation team, County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, LD1 5LG or email [email protected]

The formal consultation follows a decision by the council’s cabinet in January to consult on a proposal to close the primary schools from December 2016
