A Black Country-born author, now resident on the Welsh border near Hay-on-Wye, has released his latest book that examines the theme of personal acquaintance through the lens of the Great Thinkers, particularly those of Ancient Greece.

Almost 10 years in the making, A Bakers Dozen; inspirational characters and their impact in my world, with philosophical annotations, is Graham Fisher’s exploration of characters, sadly now all deceased, whom he has encountered along the way and the legacy they left him after what he describes as ‘a life well led’.

With an emphasis on local personalities including Wesley Perrins MP, peace campaigner Bert Bissell and Halesowen artist Ray Stimpson, the repertoire also includes those of more national prominence such as broadcaster Alistair Cooke, comedian Spike Milligan and eccentric writer Daniil Kharms. Graham describes it as ‘sauntering along life’s avenues to recount a medley of acquaintances that have left singularly affirming impressions of wisdom and virtue.’

Graham said: “This has taken me a long time to pull together so I feel it is something of a magnum opus and a fitting testament to just some of the people who lives have greatly influenced both mine and others. I believe their examples offer lessons for us all.”
