A MAN has died after he entered the river Tawe at Ystradgynlais this morning.
Dyfed-Powys Police has confirmed the man was in his 60s and say his death is not being treated as suspicious, or linked to the adverse weather.Police and officials from councils and other public bodies have been dealing with numerous incidents across south and Mid Wales due to flooding caused by Storm Dennis.A statement by Dyfed-Powys Police issued shortly before 4pm on Sunday, February 16 said:"Dyfed-Powys Police is appealing for witnesses following the death of a man in Ystradgynlais.At around 10am this morning (16 January 2020), a man aged in his 60s was seen entering the River Tawe near Gorsedd Park.He was rescued from the water near Trebanos Rugby Club, but despite the best efforts of paramedics, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Few details of the incident in which the man has died have been released but the death has been confirmed by Dyfed-Powys Police oficers in Ystradgynlais.
The force’s neighbourhood policing team said via its Twitter account a man had fallen in a river and his body has been found downstream at Trebanos.
Police are appealing for witnesses
The @DPP_NPT_Ystrad tweeted: "APPEAL - A male has fallen into the river at #Ystradgynlais at approximately 10am this morning and has sadly be found deceased further along the river in the Tebanos area. If you witnessed this incident please can you give us a call on 101."
No details of the man’s age or the exact location he fell in have yet been released or which river he fell into.
The Tawe runs through Ystradynglais down the Swansea Valley to Trebanos.
