Intrepid Martin Jackson as completed his charity challenge in memory of his friend who died from melanoma.

Martin tackled The Big Black Mountains Challenge - which raises money for the Longtown mountain rescue team - in memory of father-of-two Lee Cave, the head of an outdoor education centre near the Brecon Beacons, who was just 40 when he died at new year.

Martin said: “I was part of a small team who were all trying to raise money for Melanoma UK in memory of our friend Lee. Lee inspired us all in many different ways as well as thousands of young people through his sheer passion for adventure in the outdoors. He trained many of us and we shared many cold, tiring but exciting times with him either in the mountains or underground in caves.

“When Lee passed away at new year it was very much unexpected and it was a huge shock to his family.

“Lee’s wife Rhiannon and children would like his name to live on and continue to help, inspire and fuel peoples passion to achieve their dreams.”

To help raise awareness and funds for melanoma patients, nurses and research, a group has been set up.

“A friend of mine Libby Keech from Northamptonshire, where Lee grew up, had the idea and got us all together,” Martin said.

“We all have a connection to Lee through Longtown Outdoor Education Centre. Lee started his outdoor career working there and quickly progressed though the ranks until leaving to work for others and run his own successful outdoor business before returning to run the centre himself.

“To date we have raised an incredible £2,220, which will make a real difference.
