A minibus taking school pupils and teachers to a Welsh School Athletics Championship in Brecon crashed near Llanbadarn Fynydd this morning.
Dyfed-Powys Police said one female pupil was taken to hospital by paramedics, an air ambulance had also attended. The force also said the minibus driver has been reported for unspecified driving offences.
The nine pupils, aged between 14 and 15, were travelling from Wrexham to Brecon for the competition when the white Mercedes Sprinter minibus crashed on the A483. Dyfed-Powys Police described it as a one vehicle collision.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police attended, along with ambulance and air ambulance. One girl was taken to hospital by paramedics.
“The rest of the group was moved from the roadside to the safety of Newtown Police Station for assessment and treatment.
Officers worked with the teachers to contact the parents of each pupil to let them know what had happened and that their child was in shock, but safe and well.”
Inspector Jonathan Rees-Jones said: “Ensuring the safety of this group was of paramount importance for all emergency services at the scene. Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt and we were able to update parents and move the remainder of the group to a safe location at the police station for assessment.”
The road was closed for one and a half hours while the minibus was recovered.
