A dog from Bridgend has been found unharmed after spending two days on Pen y Fan.

Jagger, an eight-year-old black and white cross breed terrier, disappeared in the fog near Jacobs Ladder on Pen y Fan on Wednesday, June 28.

Jagger slipped out of his lead, which he had been kept on due to lack of visibility, while walking through the dense fog with James at the top.

James then spent hours calling and searching for the dog in the fog until he became disorientated.

While Jagger was in an area close to sheep, he has luckily never had any interest in livestock and is used to being on his lead when around them.

He was found at 4.30pm on Friday June 30 by James Byrne, one of the dog’s owners.

Jagger was found on the east side of Pen y Fan in the valley between the peaks on Cwm Sere. He had taken shelter on a rock ledge beneath some undergrowth but had not been able to climb back up the path.

James initially climbed down to the undergrowth as he thought he had heard a donkey. After climbing down to Jagger, he then had to climb back up the rocks with the dog.

Paul Thomas, an ex-army friend to the Byrnes, who helped to look in the wooded areas was amazed to see strangers walking the paths around the mountain calling for the dog.

Clare Byrne, also one of the owners, from Bridgend, said:

"We were beginning to give up hope. We want to say an enormous grateful thanks to absolutely everyone in the community who has helped us. We are so blessed and extremely lucky.

We cannot give enough thanks. It has certainly reinforced my belief that most human beings are kind and helpful."
