TV broadcaster and writer Monty Halls is giving a talk and presentation in Hay-on-Wye revealing the story behind the filming of his hit Channel 4 series ‘WWII’s Great Escapes – The Freedom Trails’.

During the making of the series, Monty and his film crew trekked through some of the most dramatic terrain in Europe, following in the footsteps of British servicemen and women who attempted to escape Nazi occupation.

The escapees were helped along the way by local people living in mountain regions in Italy, France and Slovenia and the series spoke to many of the civilians, partisans and resistance fighters who made the trails a reality.

The presentation will show previously unseen footage from the series, as well as images taken during the filming process.

After the talk on November 18 at The Globe in Hay, Monty will be signing copies of his book about the series, entitled ‘Escaping Hitler – Stories of Courage and Endurance on the Freedom Trails’.

The book signing will be raising funds for Monty’s friend Anna Bromley, who has breast cancer.

A justgiving page has been set up to help Anna raise the £22,500 she needs to pay for her breast cancer treatment.

The talk at The Globe begins at 2.30pm, with the book signing following on immediately afterwards.
