A FARM near Builth Wells raised more than ten thousand pounds for the South Powys Parkinsons Support Group with its farm open day.

In the hills of Llanafan Fawr, a road which is usually quiet was busy with people heading for Pen-y-Crug Farm in to enjoy the open day in the sunshine which included a showcase of the farm’s prize winning Limousin Cattle and Beulah Speckled Faced sheep.

Pen-y-Crug Farm donated its full proceeds from the day, totally £10,840, to the group which is part of Parkinsons UK and provides support to people living with Parkinsons and their loved ones while also researching to try to find a cure for the disease.

Parkinsons is a progressive neurological condition which affects 1 in 37 people living in Wales - as of yet there is no cure. .

An event spokesperson said: “The group are overwhelmed with the hard work and generosity of the Price’s, their friends and neighbours for putting together such a memorable day.

“Thanks are alos due to generosity of the suppliers, friends and neighbours and fellow Limousin and Speckle Face Society members who supported this cause so whole heartedly.”

The farm was beautifully presented - the stock, yard, parking field and barns were spotless and there were flowers on all the outside table - many of which were sold in the auction held in the evening.

During the afternoon guests were treated to tea, cakes and refreshments including burgers. There were a number of stalls to browse from local craft and fashion shops which had a lot of stock to admire.

Mervyn hosted three very popular trailer tours of the 230 acre farm giving a commentary as they progressed. A Raffle and Promise Auction proved very popular with proceeds from the Raffle being generously match funded by Barclays Bank. In the evening with the crowds still arriving there was live music and a hog roast.
