A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a crash with a car in the Brecon Beacons.

The biker had been travelling from the Penderyn direction on the A4059 when his silver BMW motorbike collided with a silver Mazda CX-5, travelling from the A470 junction, yesterday.

The vehicles collided at around 2pm and two miles away from the junction with the A470, known locally as the Hirwaun Junction, which is next to Beacons Reservoir. The road remained closed until around 7pm.

The rider of the bike remains in hospital. The driver and the passenger of the Mazda were uninjured.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman said: “We are appealing for information about a serious road traffic collision on the A4059, around two miles from the junction with the A470, which involved a motorbike and a car.

“The A4059 between Storey Arms and Hirwaun was closed for a number of hours while specialist officers carried out their investigations.”

Officers made drivers aware of the accident via the Brecon Roads Policing Unit Twitter account in a post which explained why the road had been closed.

The tweet, at 7.24pm yesterday, said: "Due to a serious injury RTC on the A4059 earlier we had to close the road whilst investigations took place. Thank-you for the patience and understanding of those taking a diversion. Also to those who stayed/attended initial scene and assisted."

Anyone with information about the crash should report it to Dyfed-Powys Police by calling 101.
