Chris Davies has been interviewed by police for a second time about an allegedly fraudulent expenses claim after he bought furniture and pictures for his constituency office.

The Brecon and Radnorshire MP was first interviewed by officers in July and it has now emerged he was interviewed for a second time towards the end of October.

It is understood Mr Davies is accused of manually creating two invoices for £450 and £250 for the items, bought for his office in Builth Wells, instead of submitting a computer claim for the full £700. This is alleged to have happened in 2016.

Mr Davies was referred to the Metropolitan Police by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa).

After he was initially interviewed by police on Tuesday, July 17, Mr Davies said the claim had occurred as a result of an "honest mistake".

Mr Davies has since made it clear he has repaid the £450 sum, which was charged to a start-up fund for new MPs to set up offices.

Mr Davies was elected as an MP in the 2015 general election when he won the Brecon and Radnorshire seat from the Liberal Democrats.

Scotland Yard have confirmed they re-interviewed a 50-year-old man on Wednesday, October 24 after speaking to him "voluntarily and under caution" on July 17.

After being contacted today by the Brecon & Radnor Express, Mr Davies confirmed: “I voluntarily met with the Metropolitan Police on October 24 in order to bring this case to a swift conclusion.

"I will happily give a further statement on the facts once this case is concluded”.
