PLANS for a snap general election have been welcomed by Brecon and Radnorshire MP Chris Davies.
The Conservative captured his seat from Liberal Democrat Roger Williams at the 2015 general election with a majority of 5,102.
PM Theresa May made her surprise announcement to hold an election on June 8 outside Downing Street this morning.
She said Britain needed certainty, stability and strong leadership following the European Union referendum last June.
Mr Davies, who backed Brexit, said: "It has come as quite a surprise. We are in a good position and I can understand why she would want a snap election. We have a great deal to sort out following Brexit and we now need a strong and stable majority to make sure of the best outcome for the country.
"It is important we have continuity and stability for everybody in this country that’s what I will be fighting for as the Conservative candidate in the forthcoming general election."
Mrs May must win Parliament’s backing, in a vote on Wednesday, to hold a vote before 2020.
