MR Cheeze, the infamous porcelain statue which stood outside the Say Cheeze photography business in Lion Yard, Brecon, for 10 years, is back on display. This time he is outside The Walnut Tree cafe in Llangynidr.
Photographer-turned-chef Peter Casaru runs the cafe which is situated behind the Walnut Tree Village Stores. “I thought bringing Mr Cheeze out of retirement would be a bit of fun for the cafe customers,” said Peter.
Mr Cheeze has an interesting past. He was once kidnapped, and a ransom note was received from Benidorm saying: “(Give) £50 to the Police benevolent fund or Cheezy get’s it”.
Peter said “I’ve worked in the cafe and village shop, owned by Howard Marlow, for nearly two years, and the opportunity to take over the cafe side of the business came up, and I thought I would have a go. I have been involved in food production for over 20 years, creating dishes and photographing them for supermarkets, posters, books and catalogues. The business will stay the same. The only change I will make is to try and develop an evening trade for the cafe, such as a wine bar linked to themed evenings like “Tapas or Curry” nights”.
