THE mother of murdered private investigator Daniel Morgan has welcomed the establishment of a Hillsborough style inquiry into his death.
Isobel Hulsman, from Breconshire, and her family have waged a long campaign for an independent inquiry into Daniel's 1987 murder in the car park of a London pub.
Announcing an independent panel, led by a retired judge, will now look into the case, Home Secretary Theresa May said Daniel's death is one of the country's 'most notorious unsolved murder cases.'
No one has ever been convicted of Daniel's murder, despite five police investigations culminating in a trial of four men which collapsed in March 2011.
The new inquiry will consider possible police involvement in the murder, allegations of police corruption during various investigations, and connections between private investigators, police officers and journalists, including those from the now closed News of the World.
Daniel's family believe the 37-year-old was about to blow the whistle on police corruption when he was killed. The family have alleged corruption has continually hampered investigations.
London's Met Police has acknowledged police corruption was a 'debilitating factor' in the original investigation.
Mrs Hulsman, who is 85, told The Brecon & Radnor Express: "I feel hopefully here we have people who are positive and able and who are going to take this on and look into it thoroughly and deeply."
